Keeping Up With Your Resets- Some Tips & Reminders For You!

Hey there!

I wanted to check in with you while on maternity leave to remind you about a tool that can help keep your body feeling good, in alignment, and help you get out of a flare should something feel off. I have been using resets to recover post birth in the same way I used to use them for aches/pains and maintenance! Read to the end for links to my favorite reset routines, and a hint at something amazing that's coming very soon!

A reset is a short routine or even one movement that helps bring the body back into alignment. Resets help our brain and body find a more neutral place to live, which balances the loadings of our muscles and tissues and helps us avoid injury. You know the time you were just picking up a grocery bag and you threw your back out? That's not because you picked up a grocery bag. It's because you had been improperly loading your muscles and tissues with inopportune posture for a long time before that one action was the straw that broke the camel's back. Regular resets can help us be in better alignment all the time, setting us up for ease in our body!

Here is your reminder to do your resets daily as maintenance and when your body is talking to you through pain or discomfort. For active members of The Santosha Movement Society, you'll likely have an idea of what those are. But read on for more info and some to try out!

“I need to check in about a new reset. I always think of you and use your movement and cues DAILY! So grateful for your resets!”
— Marla

I like to use resets in a few ways.

One: As a warm-up to your movement practice so you’re starting out in a more optimal alignment.

Two: A daily or frequent ‘mini reset routine’ as a stand alone preventative routine to help us stay in alignment, or use to find better alignment on a regular basis.

Three: As a ‘shake it out’ when you’re in the middle of a tough exercise and it stops going perfectly- do a reset and start again. This can also apply when you’re doing a ‘life activity” like cooking or working and you get a quick pain or it stops feeling right. We’ve often just lost our best form and need a reset to find it again!

Four: For those with significant pain or injury, we often need a much larger dose of Resets in order to reap the results. It is a full body approach that needs addressing multiple areas in order to heal the area of concern. Stay tuned for an in-depth approach to Reset through the Foundations of Pilates- Coming Soon!

I have an arsenal of top resets that work for many people, helping them ease their low back pain, aide an achy shoulder, and/or feel lighter and more solid. And, I have lots of video saved in my On Demand video library - either a short Foundational video with 1-2 movements in it, or a longer 10-20 minute video that can serve as a full reset.

When doing resets on your own, you can choose just one movement if that's what you've got time for, or you can string a few together. Here are the links to a few of my FAVORITE reset videos, some being 1-2 exercises and some being longer. If you are a member of The Santosha Movement Society, these are free to you. If not, you can join today for just $25/month and cancel anytime! There are a lot more resources within the library as well as other perks to the membership.

Stay tuned for even more info on Resets, including the holy grail on a full body reset that will take you through the Foundations step by step, in the order I'd like you to progress. This will be ideal for either someone with some pain/injury they'd like to address, or for a long time Pilates/Yoga practitioner that wants to improve and refine their practice to get more out of their workouts - you won't see the same results if your workouts are unintentionally misloading the muscles in inopportune posture. An injury is literally waiting to happen in due time.

Did you know that Santosha Movement Society members have unlimited access to this library along with more perks like 20% off many offerings like classes, 1:1’s, workshops & courses. Plus an invite to in studio small groups and a free monthly zoom with me! Learn more below.
