Pilates for Hypermobility Course FAQ

Hey Ya'll!

I have been getting a few questions about the Pilates for Hypermobility Course and I thought I figure when one person asks, multiple must be thinking the same thing! I'm here today to answer a few of the most common questions, and ask you if you have more!

Question: I will be mostly watching the recordings, is there a way for me to get in touch with you if I had questions?

Answer: Yes, absolutely. If you're not attending the class live, we encourage you to reach out via email in between classes to ask your questions and give feedback. You can get even more out of this course if we can personalize it, and that comes from your communication to the Instructors! We will answer your question either via email or address it during the next class for you to watch back.

Question: I am pretty deconditioned and lacking in strength so I was wondering if I should wait until the next round to take this course.

Answer: This is a course that lays the foundations of movement/Pilates by going over a lot of basics and gentle movements. Strength building will come into play as well, but we meet everyone where they are at and give many options/layers/modifications. There is also so much knowledge and information being shared about hypermobility throughout the movements that can help you on your journey with hypermobility, so being present even if you don't do as much as the next person is always welcome. But, we do offer this a couple of times per year, with the option to re-take it as many times as you'd like.

Question: My PT told me not to do group classes, but this sounds like its pretty individualized even if it's a group.

Answer: That's right! We limit this class to a small group and with the option of recordings there are often fewer people on live, allowing time to address individual questions, make verbal corrections as we move through, and incorporate modifications based on what is coming up for each person. It is not just a 'follow along with the teacher' type of group ex class. It's a really lovely and inclusive format and we have seen so much learning and empowerment for past participants!

Question: What can I expect to learn that's different from PT or regular Pilates?

Answer: My favorite way that a student has described it is "PT on steroids". We personalize the Pilates movement to what your body needs and help you to learn how you could do that once you go out into the 'real world' of exercise, group classes and gyms. The things you'll learn in this course are easily transferable to real life and doing the activities you love. You'll come away with knowledge of how to move more comfortably during your exercise or sport of choice. The tips and tricks we teach in this course have been eye opening and bring about many 'ah-hah' moments.

Question: Is there any equipment required for this course?

Answer: There is not any equipment required, although sometimes a few props can sometimes be helpful to the movement depending on the person. It is not required. We often give suggestions for things people can use around the house like a chair, water bottles to sub for light weights, a belt loop to sub for a band or yoga strap, a pillow etc. Some people already own a theraband, a Pilates ball or Yoga block which are great too, but again, not necessary. Most days we don't start with props but when someone requires a modification for an exercise it can be helpful to pull something in and we help you figure out what that is! The course is very personalized, yet many people do the recordings if the times don't work for them. You are still able to submit questions in between sessions if you're not there live.

Question: Can I take this course if I’m pregnant, or postpartum?

Answer: Yes, this course would work well for someone that is expecting or postpartum. It's already focused on the foundations, rebuilding and realigning, and we make space for everyone's different needs which can vary greatly among hypermobile bodies. The small group atmosphere lends itself well to accommodating specifically for this!

And now, I have a question for YOU! If you're not already registered for the course, what is holding you back? Respond to this email and let me know!
